30 and loving it

Yep, I just turned 30 . . . on Mother's Day . . . Dave did a great job of making it a special day. He made me a DVD with pictures from the past year which I loved AND he got me a sewing machine. I am SO excited! No, I don't really know how to sew, but we got the machine from a sewing shop that gives a few sewing lessons whenever they sell a machine (I'll take those lessons next month). I've always regretted that my mom was constantly sewing while I lived at home and I never took advantage of her being there to teach me all her mad skills :). Add to that the fact that my sister Tina always makes THE CUTEST gifts (blankets, receiving blankets, quiet books, etc) and I've wanted to learn for about a year now. And, Lisa, if you read this, know that the super cute skirts you made for your girls also got me excited to sew. So above you can see my exciting new machine and below, you can see my very first (all by myself) sewing project. I had to read the manual (it took me a while) - I had no clue how to even thread a machine, but I was so excited that I made something and it turned out okay! I made a Cars pillowcase for Parker - you can see him proudly displaying it:

Even though I got my much anticipated sewing machine, the best part of my birthday was being with my favorite people:

30's not so bad :) . . . by the way, Dave made that cheesecake in the picture . . . SO GOOD. It was a great birthday!

Candace...happy birthday and happy mother's day!!!

I am so excited that you got a sewing machine and are going to start sewing. YOU CAN DO IT!! It will be so fun. I am so honored that you mentioned me as part of your inspiration. If I can sew, anyone can. I am totally self taught and I am learning as I go. There are so many wonderful tutorials on-line or on Youtube that you can't go wrong. And if you do...there's isn't anything that you can't rip out (that was the advice from my friend). I LOVE the pillowcase you made for Parker and I can tell how much he does too. My kids LOVE the things that I have made for them, however simple, it was made with love from mom!!!

You need to send me Kambri's waist measurement and I will make her a skirt. I'm a pro now..hahaha!! Loren told me I needed to stop because she didn't need more than 6 skirts, hahahaha!!!

Love to you all...we miss you and wish we could visit, seriously!!

Happy late birthday. 30 was hard for me. Ugh, now I'm 31.

I love the pillowcase, and am excited to see what else you've been sewing since. Little girls' stuff is so much fun to make!
